New, bigger clam species found off N.S., N.L.

It’s bright orange, with large tentacles, and a white shell. Say hello to Acesta cryptadelphe, a new clam species found in deep waters off Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. The giant file clam species is described for the first time in the journal Zootaxa, in a scientific paper released this week. Scientists Ellen Kenchington of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth and Jean-Marc Gagnon of the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa co-authored the paper.
