SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY: New species of dangerous, globe-trotting mosquito found

The Asian tiger mosquito has invaded the Inland area — making this the second type of potentially dangerous mosquito to be discovered in the region in recent weeks. The viral disease-transmitting, non-native Aedes albopictus, native to tropical and subtropical Southeast Asia, was identified in the San Bernardino County city of Upland on Oct. 15 and confirmed that same day by the state’s insect-borne disease specialists, San Bernardino County Public Health Department spokeswoman Claudia Doyle said Tuesday evening.
